Optimization of logistics and production expansion
Blumer Lehmann approached Fehr Lagerlogistik to optimize the logistics between the sawmill and further processing and because the production should be expanded. Since the timber packages were at that time partly stored at different locations on the site, forklifts had to travel long distances in some cases for goods handling. The requirement for the new warehouse logistics was to create as many storage locations as possible in the predefined confined space and to ensure a connection to the existing system.
Construction and commissioning of the new storage system had to take place during the current overall operation and after strict adherence to deadlines. The process sequence was therefore planned in detail.
As special features, this project had to take into account an escape route via an existing staircase tower, special fire protection regulations with a fire door and a wall opening. Advice on safety regulations according to Suva Occupational Safety and Health was also planned.
New system Fehr Honeycomb for sawn timber packages
After an extensive process analysis, Fehr began planning the new timber long goods high-bay warehouse for Blumer Lehmann. The Fehr Honeycomb warehouse was designed and delivered, assembled and put into operation during operation. Due to the precise project management of Fehr, the new facility could be handed over to Blumer Lehmann during its current operation. Other achievements of Fehr were the programming of the warehouse management system Fehr WMS, the training of employees on the application of the new warehouse facility and the evaluation of the improvements achieved.
The new high-bay warehouse from Fehr makes production processes more efficient and reduces the number of forklift trips required.
With Fehr Lagerlogistik, we have chosen a Swiss partner who, with its technical solution, covers our needs perfectly and is close at hand. The cooperation in the project team was very good, especially with Markus Scherrer.
