The perfect long goods high-bay warehouse – also for the timber industry

When Leimholz Haag AG erected a new factory building in 2014, the primary concern is to make the flow of material as efficient as possible. In terms of storage technology, people are breaking new ground and are opting for a high-bay warehouse that was still unusual in the timber industry at the time. Fehr can convince the wood company of the system proven in the steel trade.

The demands are high. After all, Leimholz Haag AG has more than 200 different material dimensions in various qualities, from laminated timber, frame timber, lamellar beams, solid construction timber and element fins.

That is why the decision is made for a Fehr Honeycomb high-bay warehouse with 604 storage places and a 16-meter-high shelf control unit. Up to 3000 cubic meters of board-layer and structural timber can be stored in this high-bay warehouse. The maximum length of the beams is 13 meters.

The material is transported on cassettes, which, like the shelf operating device, hold up to 3500 kilograms of payload. When accessed, the desired material is simply called up on the PC, which is then automatically stored. The stock will always remain under control, because for each product a minimum quantity is stored in the warehouse management program Fehr WMS, from which order is placed.

This enables Leimholz Haag AG to offer its customers a unique range of warehouses and deliver them in record time. In only two and a half minutes, a cassette is removed from the warehouse and placed in the goods exit.

Staff costs are also minimal: the Fehr Honeycomb long goods high-bay warehouse is operated by only one employee. And even this one, once the order has been entered on the PC, can do other activities again. In addition to saving time, the risk of accidents is also significantly lower in comparison with a cantilever storage unit.

Overall, the innovative concept of the long goods high-bay warehouse for Leimholz Haag AG is proving to be a far-sighted decision. The hoped-for increase in efficiency is not only achieved by the Fehr Honeycomb, but far surpassed.
