Partnership for greater efficiency
Europe’s leading window brand Internorm, headquartered in Traun (Upper Austria), repeatedly focuses on cooperation with Fehr. The start was made with the retrofit of an overpass warehouse, followed by the order for a new Fehr Honeycomb high-bay warehouse. Further projects are already being planned – a sign of the close partnership.
Fehr is proving its worth for the first time with the modernization of a 1998 roll-over store, which was increasingly noticeable due to costly stoppages. In order to meet the increasing demands in special window production, the warehouse has been completely redesigned – with optimized filling level, direct access to high-speed runners, better throughput and new control technology that integrates seamlessly into the existing IT environment.
Central to this was the conversion of the undercarriage, which supplies all manufacturing workstations around the high-bay rack. The previous hydraulic lifting mechanism no longer met the requirements. Fehr replaced it with a chain-operated system – lighter, quieter, more reliable – in combination with four-wheel drive a process-safe overall system. The warehouse management system Fehr WMS also increases efficiency: All orders are automatically transmitted via an interface, so that the required material is available at the picking stations precisely. Productivity is up 15 percent.
At the Lannach site (Styria), another project follows: an automatic high-bay warehouse for long goods in wood-aluminum production. The aim is to expand the limited storage volume, provide material efficiently and optimally connect production plants. Automation reduces error-prone manual processes – especially for long goods such as aluminum and wood profiles, a demanding task. Fehr produces a single-row Fehr Honeycomb warehouse that connects directly to the two-story production hall. Commissioning takes place in parallel with ongoing operation. Fehr takes care of all services from one source – from analysis to training – and ensures smooth integration.
The new warehouse offers 1,783 storage spaces with 1,500 kilograms of payload each. Internorm benefits from increased storage capacity and order-related material provision. In the course of the new warehouse, the entire production was rotated by 90 degrees over two floors – with significant savings in manual logistics processes and measurable efficiency gains. Especially noteworthy is the direct connection of the production plants to the warehouse – a central requirement for automated processes.
In its partnership with Fehr, Internorm continues to set standards in intralogistics as a top European brand for windows and doors. The cooperation shows how intelligent storage solutions contribute to increased efficiency and competitiveness.
The team at Fehr assembled the outsourcing station during the current production operation and put it into operation in parallel. This made it all the more gratifying for us that Fehr was always flexible and uncomplicated in the case of short-term changes in deadlines and implementation adjustments.
