Efficiency increase in stainless steel handling

STAPPERT Deutschland GmbH operates one of the most modern logistics centers for stainless steels in Europe at the Bönen site. In order to meet the growing demand for fast availability, precise order picking and a high diversity of materials, STAPPERT opted for a highly automated storage solution from Fehr.

The newly built Fehr Honeycomb long goods warehouse with almost 5,000 storage places is the heart of modern stainless steel logistics. Two double-table shelving units serve a common alley and ensure a performance of 51 double games per hour. This means that all storage and removal processes are handled efficiently, safely and energy-saving – with plant availability exceeding 98%.

Fehr created a tailor-made honeycomb storage system for STAPPERT, which was completely adapted to the requirements of the stainless steel trade. It is characterized by 2 double-table shelving units with dynamic axle control, 10 transfer stations (3 goods inlets, 7 goods outlets), 3,000 kg payload per cassette, integration of the Fehr WMS with direct ERP connection and ergonomic workstations with vacuum handling system Fehr easyvac.

The combination of automatic control, optimized picking logistics and integrated residual piece management enables maximum utilization of the sawing and picking processes. This not only reduces lead times, but also significantly reduces waste and energy consumption.

Joint development with Fehr

STAPPERT and Fehr combine a long-standing partnership. At several locations in Germany and Europe – including Niederaula, Weil der Stadt, Ahrensburg, Düsseldorf and Gliwice (PL) – the companies rely on the proven Fehr Honeycomb technology.

The close cooperation began in the planning phase of each project. Through the open exchange of ideas and experiences, innovative detailed solutions have been developed – from conveyor technology to software integration. The result is an overall system that combines efficiency, economy and ease of use.

Choosing a business partner is always a vote of confidence. Thanks to the good experience with Fehr, we also had the certainty at the new location Bönen that everything was working.
